Schitterende sonates van Mancini
Dit is het eerste album dat volledig is toegewijd aan de kamermuziekwerken van Francesco Mancini, die naast Alessandro Scarlatti de belangrijkste Napolitaanse componist van de vroege 18e eeuw was. Hij schreef talloze opera’s, cantates en andere vocale werken, maar slechts een paar instrumentale werken. In deze werken overbrugde hij de kloof tussen de Italiaanse Barok en het vroege Classicisme. Deze fantastische composities lopen allen vooruit op de hervormingen en ontwikkelingen die enkele jaren later in de werken van de vroege Klassieke componisten plaats zouden vinden.

De solist op dit album is de Braziliaanse (blok)fluitist Ricardo Kanji. In 1970 kwam hij naar Nederland om te studeren onder Frans Vester en Frans Brüggen aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag, waar hij Brüggen opvolgde als blokfluitprofessor. Daar onderwijst hij blokfluit- en kamermuziek aan leerlingen die uit alle hoeken van de wereld komen. Kanji speelt in de belangrijkste Nederlandse barokorkesten.
